John, Adam, Max, Chris, and I were overdue for some camping, so we all piled into Vanessa and drove to Big Basin Redwoods State Park. When I say John, Adam, and Max were overdue, they had never been backpacking before. Jamie considered coming, but balked at the idea of explaining the trip to Justin. We parked at headquarters and hiked 5.9 miles up the Skyline-to-Sea trail, along the Hollow Tree trail to the Lane trail camp. There, we made dinner, explored some nearby logging roads, and made a spontaneous poem while Adam slept. It was very apparent from the poem that it was made by 4 guys who were bored in the woods. For dinner we had Beef Stroganoff and Pork and Rice - so good. For dessert, Hershey's milk chocolate with almonds.

On Sunday, we woke up and hiked 8 miles back to Vanessa by route of the Basin Trail. We were covered in bug bites from the night before, and happy to get back to civilization after one night away. It was actually a pretty painless and cheap introduction to backpacking. After this trip, Chris and I have hiked almost every trail in the park.
